What's your mission in this life?

Do you have an idea why you're on this earth?  Some of you have at least an inkling.  Some not so much.  And that's totally ok.  But finding and living your mission is one of the key Georgic principles.  After class, I was thinking about how those of you who think you know what your life is going to be all about, have also (maybe without realizing it???) tied your mission to other georgic principles and results... Noah wants his music and faith to help people find God and better understand the hand of Providence in their lives.  Mairen wants to be an occupational therapist, serving and blessing the lives of children, definitely community stewardship.  And David wants to join the military and protect the freedoms of our great nation.  Remembering, hopefully, what Thomas Jefferson said, "If a nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be."

Wasn't Teacher Genne fabulous?  She really inspires me with the way she lives her mission.  When she was talking about it, a few things that stood out to me were that when you know what your mission is, you shouldn't keep it a secret.  Broadcast it, let people know.  Your mission will be about impacting others, even if you have no idea right now how that will happen.  When you start to figure out what you're really put on this earth to do, you might have a broad idea.  The more you follow it, the more specific you can become.

HOMEWORK:

  • I want to see pictures of your garden projects, pretty please!
  • A mini paper is due this Thursday on mission.
  • And we'll be discussing Hatchet.  Guess what?  I don't want to do all the talking!!!  I really, truly, honestly, want to have a discussion about this fabulous book.  So loosen up your tongue, think about what touched you about the book, and plan to tell me all about how Brian lived georgically.
  • Research dinner... Keep digging so you can tell us all about the origins (very specifically) of all the ingredients your fabulous dish at the Parent Night.
